Director
Pat's professional career has primarily focused on the training and
organizational development side of human resources. Her career includes
roles of increasing responsibility in Fortune 100 Companies, such as:,
Aetna Life and Casualty Company, American Red Cross Blood Services, MCI
Telecommunications Corp., Bristol Myers Company, and INROADS, Inc.
Prior to joining the University, she served as Vice President
Organization and Workforce for Northrop Grumman Corporation in Northern
Virginia.Pat has been with the University of Illinois since 2005. Her previous academic employment included her employment with Washington University in St. Louis where she was Assistant Director of Admissions and chair of the Minority Admissions and Financial Aid Committee. Prior to that, she served as Assistant Director of Student Affairs for Student-Community Programs.
Pat has earned three degrees from Southern Illinois University: a bachelor's degree in social sciences, a master's degree in education, and an MBA in marketing and management. She is currently a doctoral candidate in human resource development at George Washington University in Washington D.C. Pat holds numerous certifications in human resources, organizational development and training.
Sue Stewart
Assistant Director
Sue is responsible for Customized Business Services which include needs
assessments, organizational development, process improvement
consulting, retreat facilitation, and change management. Sue also
partners with University of Illinois departments and local businesses
to tailor their professional development needs through customized
training program. She has been at the University of Illinois for eight
years.Sue worked at Illinois State University for 8 years as a trainer. Her previous career includes over 14 years in the publishing industry with a primary focus on marketing.
Tiy Goddard
Manager, Professional Development
Originally from Illinois, Tiy received an MBA with a Certificate in
Public Management from Stanford University in June 2007, where she also
holds a Bachelor's degree in International Relations. She spent most of
her pre-MBA career in nonprofits advancing entrepreneur training and
development in East Palo Alto, an urban community of need in the heart
of Silicon Valley. Tiy also brings bottom line-driven private sector
experience, where she worked to establish employee orientation and
training programs and increase efficiency inside a prominent San
Francisco hospitality company.Coupled with a background in adult education, her varied experiences in new initiative design and execution, group facilitation, and program development fit well with her role as Manager, Professional Development. Tiy has been with the University of Illinois Center for Training and Professional Development since September 2007.
Renee Lyell
Manager, Marketing and Communications
Renee has worked in education and non-profit organizations for over 7
years. Her expertise is in marketing, communications, training, and
special events. Working as the Senior Health Initiatives Representative
for the American Cancer Society, she was responsible for training,
educational presentations and advisor to two university student
chapters as well as organizing Relay For Life programs throughout the
Midwest region.A graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Renee continued her association with the University as Coordinator of Student Development in New Student Orientation. Her duties included training, marketing, and communications related to the Parents Association and New Student Move-In.
As Manager of Marketing and Communications for The Training Center, Renee Lyell is responsible for marketing, sponsorship, and web presence for all of the Center's programs including the Biennial Conference for Women.
Ranae Buck
Training Coordinator
Ranae has been with The Training Center for over 20 years. She is the
office manager, primary support for all training programs as well as
coordinator for the Biennial Conference for Women. Ranae is also
responsible for special event assistance for units and organizations
i.e., creating registration databases for events; coordinating
logistics; and administrating evaluation processes.As the most tenured staff member, Ranae also serves as The Center's archivist and historian.
Sandra Johnson
Office Support Associate
Sandy provides administrative support for The Training Center's staff.
Her background includes support to executives in law offices,
consulting offices, technology companies, and accounting firms. As an
assistant to an Academic Vice President, Sandy spent five years in
higher education.At the Center, Sandy is responsible for creating, distributing, and maintaining internal survey instruments used in finalizing workshops and seminars. She is also personal assistant to the Director.
